The VEU is a Victorian Government scheme that pays you to swap old, energy-hungry appliances for efficient ones. Heat pumps replace gas hot water systems. Reverse-cycle split systems replace inefficient heaters. LED lighting replaces fluoros. The program issues Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) that accredited providers redeem on your behalf, so the rebate comes off your quote upfront rather than as a refund you chase later. iPlug is a VEU accredited provider, which means you get the rebate applied at the point of sale and we handle the paperwork.
You don’t pay upfront and chase the government for reimbursement. The rebate is applied as a discount on your quote. iPlug claims the VEEC on your behalf after install, which is how we keep your out-of-pocket cost low (and in some cases, zero). All you do is sign the paperwork. We do the rest.
A VEU accredited provider is a company licensed by the Essential Services Commission to install upgrades and create VEECs under the scheme. Without that accreditation, no rebate. Yes, iPlug is accredited. You can verify any installer (including us) on the Essential Services Commission’s accredited persons register at esc.vic.gov.au. If a quote sounds suspiciously cheap and the installer can’t show you their accreditation number, walk away.
The rebate isn’t a single fixed dollar amount. It’s calculated from your STC zone, the size of the heat pump you’re installing, the type of system you’re replacing, and the certificate price at the time of install. In practice, eligible heat pump hot water upgrades attract substantial rebates, and sometimes the rebate covers the full cost of the install when an old gas system is being replaced.
For the exact rebate figure on your address and existing system, request a free quote. We give you the rebate amount in writing before you commit to anything.
To qualify you need to:
Some product categories require additional checks (zone, system size, build type). The fastest way to know for sure: send us your address and a photo of your existing system through our eligibility check, and we’ll tell you within 24 hours whether you qualify and roughly how much rebate to expect.
iPlug Green Energy installs heat pump hot water systems across metropolitan Melbourne. A standard residential install takes 4 to 6 hours on the day, and most jobs are scheduled within 1 to 3 weeks of accepting the quote. We remove and dispose of your old system, install the new heat pump, commission it, and walk you through how it runs before we leave.
There isn’t a flat rebate figure for split systems. Your rebate depends on:
The biggest rebates go to homeowners replacing old gas or inefficient electric heating with a new high-efficiency reverse-cycle split system. We calculate the exact rebate during your free quote and apply it to the price upfront, so what you see on the quote is what you actually pay.
Commercial LED upgrades sit under the same VEU program as residential heating and cooling. The process for business owners:
Most commercial sites cut their lighting electricity use by 50 to 75% and recoup the residual install cost within 12 to 24 months on energy savings alone. The rebate covers a meaningful portion of the install upfront, so businesses rarely pay full price.
The VEU schedule is reviewed each year, and the trend is clear. Rebates are being weighted toward replacing gas and inefficient electric systems, while like-for-like aircon swaps are tightening. The Essential Services Commission updates which products qualify and the formula for calculating rebates annually.
If you’ve been thinking about an upgrade and your old system still runs, this is the year to lock it in before further phase-outs. We can confirm what’s available for your specific install when you request an eligibility check.
Once you accept the quote we book a date that suits you, usually within 2 to 3 weeks. On the day, our installers arrive, remove your old unit (if applicable), mount the new indoor head and outdoor compressor, run the lines and electrical, vacuum and commission it on the spot. You’ll be running the new system before we leave. A standard single-room split install takes around 4 hours. Multi-head systems take longer.
We service the Melbourne metro area. Send us your address and we’ll confirm coverage immediately.
It depends on the system you choose and your eligibility. Some installs come in at zero out-of-pocket. Others have a residual cost when you choose a premium-tier system, or when your existing wiring, plumbing, or wall mount needs work to safely run the new unit. We give you the full out-of-pocket figure in our quote before you sign anything. No surprise charges on the day.
You’re not stuck. If you don’t qualify for the VEU rebate, we’ll tell you straight. We can still install your system at a competitive market rate without the rebate. For commercial sites, we can also check for other state or federal incentives, such as the Instant Asset Write-Off for eligible small businesses or the Solar Victoria business grants. We will do a quick eligibility check which tells us which path makes the most sense for you.

The new split system must be listed on the VEU Product Register and meet high energy efficiency standards. The split system must be supplied and installed by a VEU-accredited provider.
LEDs use 50 – 75% less electricity than other lights. As lighting can account for 20 – 40% of a business’ electricity bill, LED lighting can dramatically reduce your business’ electricity costs whilst at the same time lowering carbon emissions and helping your business achieve its ESG goals.
LEDs last approximately 50,000–100,000 hours, compared with Fluorescents at approximately 10,000 – 20,000 hours and Halogens at approximately 2,000 – 5,000 hours. They also have no warm up time, providing instant brightness and have better light quality than other lights. Some LEDs are also able to be customized to support smarter buildings and provide further energy savings.
To be eligible for a LED upgrade in Victoria, your business must be located in Victoria, Australia. You must be replacing existing inefficient lights with VEU approved products that are installed by a VEU-accredited provider.
